Nov. 20, 2008
The Thunder Girls dance team threw a party to unveil their 2009 calendar and invited family, friends and fans to join them Thursday night at Buffalo Wild Wings on Northwest Expressway.
Upon entering the doors, it was obvious this was no ordinary night or event. The Thunder Girls logo was featured on the two giant big screens, Thunder blue balloons surrounded the roped-off area. And, oh yeah, the 20 Thunder Girls and their team manager were decked out in dresses usually reserved for runways and premiers.
Thursday marked the first time dance team members had seen the photos selected for the 14-montyh calendar. It also was the first time the calendar cover had been revealed.
“I’m excited. To be able to produce something so high in quality that matches everything the Thunder stands for is a fact the girls and I can all be proud of,” Thunder Girls team manager and choreographer Sabrina Ellison said.
Once the Thunder Girls had seen the calendar, it was time for the public unveiling. The dance team members were introduced month by month as they appear in the calendar. A short Q&A with each of the team members was followed by the main event: the revealing of the cover. The Thunder Girls then took their place at a table and signed their individual pages for the long line of fans who had purchased the calendar. The photo shoot for the calendar took place over a two-day period at the Ford Center with Photographer Nigel Cooper. The end result came after going through thousands of images and numerous rounds of editing.
Fans can purchase the calendar for $20 while supplies last by visiting the Thunder Shop, logging on to Thunder.NBA.com or at any Thunder game in the Ford Center beginning on Friday, Nov. 21.
