Day 1: Welcome to Vegas
The newly-selected 2008-09 Dallas Mavericks Dancers headed to las Vegas on Saturday, August 2nd, to shoot their annual calendar.
Even though the ladies got off to an early start thanks to a 4:30 a.m. wake-up call to catch an early flight, everyone was excited to take this photo shoot off the ground.
"I'm really excited to be able to be a part of this adventure," veteran dancer Kali Drake said. "It's great to be able to go on location and do something new and different with our sixth annual calendar"
Once the team landed and grabbed their bags, they got their very first taste of Vegas' glitz & glamor when they realized the two stretch limos were waiting to take the eager crew to Treasure Island, the host hotel for the shoot.
A quick breakfast and team meeting followed. Nine girls then headed straight to makeup for the first photo shoot.
"It's very exciting to be in Vegas and shooting our calendar," rookie Carmen Butler said. "It's a new opportunity and great to be part of it. I was a Cowboy Cheerleader for three years and we would go to a tropical island to shoot that calendar and this is very different.
"You have a lot of eyes on you, and you have to tune them out and focus in on what the photographer is telling you to do."
The first shot took place on the pirate ship in front of the hotel, so the girls had an audience courtesy of the thousands of tourists lining the world-famous Strip. The long first day ended with a fireworks display in front of TI.
Make sure to check back Sunday for more behind-the-scene info from the sphoto shoot and don't forget to pre-order your calendar today!
Day 2: Catching up with Whitney
Day 2 of the Mavs Dancer Calendar Shoot started bright and early at 5 a.m. with hair and make up for the first session of the day. The girls were excited and ready to go with the first of four photo shoots scheduled for Sunday.
Before heading out to her photo shoot at the famous "Welcome to Las Vegas," sign, first-year dancer Whitney Foster talked about her experience so far in the City of Lights.
What was your reaction when you found out that you would be going to Las Vegas for the calendar shoot?
Shella told us that we would be coming to Las Vegas in prep classes at Dallas Powerhouse of Dance before we even tried out. So it definitely motivated me to work hard to make the team.
Have the Mavs dancers had a warm reception so far in Vegas?
It's been great so far. We've taken lots of pictures with fans, and everyone recognizes us everywhere we go and has been really excited to see us.
Is this your first calendar shoot?
Yes, this is my first calendar shoot and who would've thought it would be as a Dallas Mavericks dancer! Everyone has been so nice, and it's been everything that I hoped it would be.
Did your first photo shoot go well?
My first shoot was on a boat here at Treasure Island. It was scary because I was hanging on a net off the side of the boat in shoes that were two sizes too small. It was fun though because Shella was there making sure I was secure and fans that passed by on the Strip cheered me on.
What has been your favorite part of the calendar shoot so far?
My favorite part is definitely being pampered by TONI & GUY. It's been fun getting my hair and make up done by professionals. It's also been great having VIP access everywhere. So the overall special treatment has been the best part.
What are you looking forward to most this season?
This season I'm looking forward to dancing during pregame the most. Every time I go to the game it's so exciting when the lights drop, fans are cheering, and players are announced. I can't wait for the season to start!
