Holly's Arena Bowl Report

Posted by James at 9:18 AM ET

Via our good friend Mid-west Dave: Columbus Bombshell Holly participated in the 2008 ArenaBowl, the second time she was selected to be on the Dream Team squad. She provided an excellent report:

Dream Team
The entire experience was a blast. I couldn't have asked to meet a better group of girls. Each team representative had their own fantastic personality and charm. I could see why each one of them were chosen for the Dream Team. I even got to reunite with an old friend and teammate. Rhema was chosen to represent the Cleveland Gladiators, and she used to be a Bombshell with me in 2006.

The trip started out on Wednesday the 23rd of July and ended on Monday the 28th. It was a crazy and hectic six days, but well worth it. Everything was so well organized by the Aaron's team and the AFL organization!

We rehearsed our dances (which we were introduced to prior via a DVD that our choreographer mailed to us), and had photo and video shoots while we were in New Orleans. We participated in the AFL Awards on Friday night, where we performed a dance, and then dressed up and helped pass out the awards. Saturday was an early morning and a long day... but a fabulous day and night! We started out at a golf tournament, then headed to dress rehearsal at the Arena. We then headed to a kids event at the Saints practice facility. I looove kids, so that was a great time for me! Then we split into two groups and one group of the girls helped with a Jr. Dream Team clinic and my group headed to a parade that went from Harrah's, down Bourbon street, and ended up in the Jax Lot in the French Quarter! It was so fun and something you'd expect to do in New Orleans.

After the parade we all met up again and attended a VIP party in the French Quarter with AFL Organization members, Aaron's members, among others. We then proceeded outside to the huge fan fest and introduced ourselves by name and team on the stage.. Go Columbus! Then the highlight of the night - we got to be front and center for the rest of the evening for the Huey Lewis and the News concert! It was a BLAST.. minus we got poured on - it was raining!!

Game Performance

The next day was Arena Bowl day!! We got up early, had rehearsals, more fan fest fun near the Arena where we performed and signed autographs, then we headed in to the Arena to get prepared for the game. I was rooting for Philly, because they are from our Eastern Division, and also because they have Matt D'Orazio as their quarterback, who used to be with Columbus. The game was a blast - we performed a pregame dance, a second dance during the 1st quarter and then between 3rd and 4th we performed a 3rd dance. The crowd was amazing and very receptive!

Overall the experience was absolutely AMAZING! I was sooo blessed to be chosen again to represent my Bombshell's dance team for the Columbus Destroyers. I would have never imagined that I could go twice to participate in something so special in my heart, but I guess "Dream's" do come true. Being a part of the 2008 Aaron's AFL Dream Team in New Orleans for Arena Bowl XXII will be one for the memory books! I have a passion for cheerleading and dance and to be around others that do as well was undescribable!
