Wizard Girl Auditions

Posted by James at 6:45 AM ET

Auditions for the 2008-09 Washington Wizard Girls got under way on Saturday. Two hundred young ladies from across the DC Metro area and around the world converged on the Verizon Center for a chance to make the team. By the end of the day thirty-five dancers had survived three rounds of cuts to advance to Sunday's Audition Finals. (I didn't make it down for the first day of auditions; a friend and I were climbing Mt. Marcy in New York. In the unlikely event you are interested, photos of our adventure are here.)

On Sunday the auditions consisted of the individual ladies being introduced in swimsuits. Then in groups of five they performed the two dances they had learned on Saturday: a pom routine and a "sideline" routine.

After all the dancers had preformed the two routines. The groups of five performed a routine they had learned earlier in the day.
