Choctawhatchee High School graduate Bronwyn Burt has been selected as one of the Saintsations, the New Orleans Saints' cheerleaders.

The tryouts, which were held this spring, consisted of dances and interviews, and Burt was one of 31 women chosen from about 100.

"I'm so excited," Burt said. "I can't wait for the games to start."

Burt is the daughter of John and Sharen Burt of Fort Walton Beach. She graduated from Choctaw in 2005 after being on dance teams there and at Pryor Middle School.
"We're just thrilled to death," Sharen Burt said.

Since graduation, Bronwyn Burt has attended Florida State University and Tallahassee Community College. There, she danced for the Tallahassee Titans, the city's arena football team.

Burt was planning to attend Southeastern Louisiana University in the fall when her parents suggested she try out for the Saintsations.

"We saw them dance at a game and I told Bronwyn she should try out," Sharen Burt said. "We didn't want her to give up on her dancing."

Although football season hasn't started yet, Burt has been busy making appearances with the squad and shooting the Saintsations' annual calendar.

In the fall, Burt and the Saintsations will travel to London, where the Saints will face the San Diego Chargers. The Saintsations also make regular trips to Iraq and Afghanistan to visit American troops.

Burt plans to pursue a degree in nursing from Southeastern Louisiana University.Although she made the squad this year, her place is not permanent. She must try out each year.

"I'm planning on finishing college in Louisiana," Burt said. "And I'm going to keep trying out for Saintsations every year."
