Are the Chicago Bulls' Matadors, the big boys of basketball who entertain fans during home games, headed to the big screen?

Disney made that hefty claim this week, but a spokesman for the team says that's like celebrating a championship before you've even scored your first three-pointer of the season.

Steve Schanwald, executive vice president of business operations for the Bulls, confirmed the team has had conversations with various parties but told the Sun-Times that a feature-length film based on the popular, rotund male cheerleaders "is a long way from being a done deal at this point and, until it is, it would be inappropriate for us to comment further."

What we do know is Disney optioned a script titled "The Matadors." Former Los Angeles Laker Girl and choreographer Anne Fletcher ("27 Dresses," "Step Up") has been tapped to direct the dance comedy, about a pair of superfans who start up a professional male cheerleading team.

"These guys who are the ultimate fans," she told the Hollywood Reporter. "The biggest deed they can do is dance and cheerlead for their team. I wanted to do an all-out comedy, and having the dance elements, that was icing on the cake.''

It's hard to imagine a film titled "The Matadors" not being about the Chicago team. Then again, we never thought a film called "Chicago" would be primarily shot in Toronto, either.
