(TitansOnline.com)NASHVILLE, TN, April 25, 2008 — Preliminary auditions for the 2008-09 Titans Cheerleaders were recently held at Baptist Sports Park, setting the stage for audition finals on May 13.

Check-in for the preliminary round began at 9:30 a.m. last Saturday with many people arriving up to 30 minutes earlier. Approximately 150 Titans Cheerleader hopefuls, both old and new, began the day-long process which, with some good fortune, would lead up to a trip to perform at finals.

The morning began with the preliminary tryouts in which 150 girls were taught different pieces of choreography. Of the 150 girls, 24 were returning veterans who had been on previous Titans Cheerleading Squads. All the women practiced throughout the morning and were divided up into 38 groups of four to perform for the eight judges. The judges were a diverse group, consisting of a fifth degree Black belt, a former Broadway dancer, a professional photographer, Titans Cheerleader Alumni and numerous other qualified individuals.

Despite the tough competition, the judges were able to select 80 women to move on to the semi-final round of tryouts.

In the round of 80, more choreography was taught to the women. They were able to practice their skills by participating in line drills, where groups of women would go across the floor, doing certain dance skills. At the end of the afternoon, the women were once again put into groups of four, where they performed for the judges.

Of the tough audition process, returning Titan Cheerleader, Lindsey R. said, “Coming back as a veteran to semi-finals was a totally different experience than last year when it was my first year to tryout. I was really able to enjoy and soak up the moment instead of trying to figure out what the heck was going on! It was also a great way to look back at how much I've grown in the past year having been on the team and reflect on what an amazing group of women I've had the honor of cheering with. It's going to be a tough tryout with all of the women that made it to finals, but it just proves that each year our director keeps raising the bar.”

After careful consideration, 56 women were told that they were given the honor of advancing to finals workshops and finals in May 13th.

“The process was a very competitive one. I am looking forward to getting to know the 56 girls that have made it to the final round of tryouts,” said Stacie Kinder, Director of Cheerleading for the Titans.

The final audition will be held at City Hall Entertainment Space in the Gulch and is open to the public. Tickets are on sale for $10 and are available at the door or by calling 565-4172.
