The Philadelphia Eagles have been nationally recognized for their ground-breaking Go Green environmental program. Since it’s inception in 2003, the program, which was the first of its kind in the industry, has laid the foundation for numerous NFL teams, other sports teams and leagues, as well as corporate America, to adopt green business practices that lessen their impact on the environment.
Now, we have developed another innovative concept involving our popular cheerleaders that takes eco-friendly to a new level, one we like to call…eco-sexy! The Eagles Cheerleaders will be the first professional cheerleading squad to produce an environmentally friendly themed calendar.
The Eagles Cheerleaders annual calendar has been widely known for its cutting-edge concepts and style, and this year it’s Going Green. The 38 bio-licious women on the squad will be wearing bikinis made of 95% organic cotton and recycled plastic soda bottles as well as jewelry and accessories made from bamboo and other recycled, upcycled and repurposed products such as CDs, computer chips, glass, cable wire, candy wrappers and watch parts. Additionally, the cheerleaders will be using cosmetics and hair supplies that are earth friendly and locations for the calendar shoot will include an ecological park and alternative energy elements.
The 16 month calendar, which will be printed on post-consumer recycled paper, will feature educational information about the eco-sexy products and locations used for each cheerleader’s photograph. The calendar will be photographed by Steve Vaccariello, named by Nikon as one of the top 50 photographers in the world. The calendar is sold at retail outlets nationwide including Barnes and Noble, Borders, Waldenbooks and Calendar Club and it will be unveiled in July.
“This calendar illustrates that by making simple eco-friendly choices such as using organic products and recycled items, it is possible to be stylish while lessening the impact on our environment at the same time. While the Eagles Cheerleaders are known for being trend-setters, for us, this calendar is part of our commitment to being environmentally conscious not a mere fashion trend. We hope that it will spark an interest in others to also Go Green and to continue to make eco-friendly choices in the future.” Barbara Zaun, Director of Cheerleading. [photos]
