The pompoms were flying in a clash of the cleavages last weekend.

Panthers held their cheer squad auditions for the 2008 season at Evan Theatre on February 3.

Budding hopefuls danced for one of 18 spots in the squad, auditioning in front of a judging panel that included Panthers entertainment manager Di Murphy.

"This is a wonderful opportunity to represent Penrith by being part of our talented cheer squad," she said.

"The dancers add to the atmosphere of the games at CUA Stadium and really help provide that spark in getting the crowd cheering the team on."

Being a member of the cheer squad not only ensures the best view of the game, but provides many dancers with an opportunity to start a career in the performing arts.

Applicants had to be 18 years or over, have dance experience and be dressed in midriff dancewear with full makeup and hair done.

The cheersquad will show off their new moves at the Panthers' first home game at CUA Stadium on Saturday, March 22.
