Hawai'i-born boxer Eileen Kuwaye Olszewski defeated Elena "Baby Doll" Reid in a 10-round decision at the Roseland Ballroom in New York on Friday to capture the Women's International Boxing Association flyweight title.

Olszewski, nicknamed "The Hawaiian Mongoose," fought conservatively through the opening rounds, controlling Reid with her jab, before launching a brutal offensive in the eighth.

It was Reid's first title defense.

Olszewski, a Kaimuki High School alumna, improved her professional record to 5-0-1. She was undefeated (28-0) as an amateur.

The bout was Olszewski's second consecutive title fight. Last September, Olszewski fought Stefania Bianchini for the WBC title. The fight, held in Bianchini's hometown of Rovigo, Italy, ended in a majority draw.

Olszewski's manager David Selwyn later complained that the referee for the bout failed to warn Bianchini about holding Olszewski.

Olszewski's appeal for a rematch was granted by the WBC, but a date has not yet been scheduled.
