An Ontario woman with ties to Fox Harbour was named Miss Argo 2007 earlier this year at a football game with the Toronto Argonauts.

Courtney Kelly, daughter of Brian and Jean Kelly of Fox Harbour, but who now live in Ontario, is a fashion arts student at Humber College in Ontario and joined the Blue Thunder cheerleading team in April.

The cheerleading team has had the Miss Argo competition for two years now, and this year, Ms. Kelly was the winner.

The contest is made available to fans to vote online for their favourite cheerleader. Ms. Kelly made the first cut, according to her aunt, Mary Parsons who lives in Fox Harbour, and then fans had to vote again for either Ms. Kelly or another cheerleader. That time was the clincher for the blonde, green-eyed 19-year old, who was named Miss Argo during a game.

“She is an example of a great cheerleader and was the fans’ favourite this year, Blue Thunder head coach Mailie Harris told the Humber College newspaper. “It’s kind of cool that she’s a rookie.”

Brian Kelly, Courtney’s father told the college newspaper he was very proud of his daughter.

“She puts her heart into it and deserves it,” he said. “I am just so happy for her.”

The winner of the title is expected to attend charity and corporate events and to urge on the audience at events.

“It’s hard but I like to keep myself busy,” said Ms. Kelly, adding she must work at balancing school and cheerleading.
