NFL Week 12 – The Game That Could Have Been

Posted by David Allen Tyau at 7:30 AM ET

Unlike the previous two home games, the weather this Sunday was great. Okay, it was a bit cloudy, but the temperatures were in the upper 60’s, which meant that it was a great day for football. The game between the Baltimore Ravens and the San Diego Chargers should have been billed “the game that could have been”. In 2006, the Ravens and the Chargers sported the best records in the AFC and should have met for the conference title. But a funny thing happened on the way to the AFC Championship game…both teams choked. So, instead of featuring a rematch of championship teams, this game pitted two teams struggling to regain their former glory.

In a game that lacked a certain amount of excitement, the Chargers scored 22 first half points and cruised to a 32 – 14 victory. No, this wasn’t a thrilling shoot out like Saturday’s Missouri versus Kansas match up, but a win is a win. Needless to say, when the game is boring, I turn my attention to something that’s always exciting…the Charger Girls, 28 of the most beautiful girls that grace a sideline.

And speaking of sideline beauty, here’s rookie Charger Girl Heather dancing up a storm.

When you watch Heather, two things stand out: big hair and big dance moves. Both make for a great photograph. Another Charger Girl that is one of my favorites to photograph is Gail. As you can see, she also has a certain flair about her.

Now we turn our attention to a gaggle of Line Captains. Here are a few photos of Line Captain Ashley W. demonstrating some of the things that a Line Captain does: shouting out the line stunts on fourth down and shushing the crowd when they cheer at the most inappropriate times…like on third down…when we are on offense…and it’s a critical point in the game. Go get ‘em, Ashley.

And here are a couple of photos of Summer, who was last seen in the most recent, “Then and Now” feature.

Line Captain is Stacie is a third year Charger Girl, a former Kansas City Chief cheerleader and she owns her own sportswear business. If you’ve seen the photos of the veteran Charger Girls at this year’s tryouts, you’ve probably seen some of her designs.

Katrina, a first year Line Captain, used to dance for collegiate dance team powerhouse Orange Coast College.

If there was an iron man award given out to the toughest, most competitive Charger Girl, Shantel would win it hands down. But she can also deliver on some great, compelling photographs as well.

What do the Ashley M., Lauren, and Kylette have in common? They all have great smiles.

Jill Ann, who hails from Mesquite , Texas , is featured in the latest issue of Chargers Tailgate Times, which should be published here later this week.

Lizzy takes a moment to check out the scoreboard. Yep, the Chargers are still ahead.

Last time we saw Shelby , she was getting drenched in the rain. Here are a couple of photos of her in better weather conditions.

The Chargers have a habit of winning ugly, when they win. They can lose ugly as well, but on this day, the Chargers won and stayed in contention for the AFC West title. Oh well, a win is a win, ugly or not. If I want something pretty to look at, I can always turn to the Charger Girls.
