It seems every aspect of the Detroit Pistons organization is celebrating the team’s 50 seasons in Detroit. On Friday night, the Automotion Dance Team joined the celebration with the unveiling of their 2007-08 Pin-Up Calendar.

The event was held in the Ameriprise Financial Club in the Comcast Pavilion at The Palace of Auburn Hills. More than 300 guests enjoyed a walking buffet, drinks and mingling with all the members of Automotion.

Dance Team Director Rebecca Girard has made it a tradition that only a few of the photos from the calendar are released before the annual Reveal Party. Further, only a select few at the party had seen the final calendar and they were sworn to secrecy. Girard makes sure the “cover girl” is only revealed at the party.

Members of the Automotion team, all looking glamorous in evening gown attire, greeted guests at the door. About an hour into the evening, Executive Vice President Pete Skorich addressed the guests, thanking them for coming and introducing Girard. In front of a large screen, and with help from calendar photographer Dan Lippitt, Girard revealed the photos.

Girard and Lippitt had selected a Vargas-themed pin-up calendar for the 2008 edition. The classic theme worked well into the Pistons celebration of 50 seasons. The team had gathered classic bathing suits and classic props. Automotion sponsor Bianchi Salon and Spa did all of the dancers hair in classic ‘40s and ‘50s styles.

The big presentation came to a crescendo when Girard revealed the last photo of the night – the calendar cover. Tina, a three-year veteran had been selected. Her photo featured the raven-haired beauty in a classic one-piece floral patterned bathing suit, perched on a rattan chair with magazines, including LIFE and a 1950’s Pistons program strewn on the floor.

The 2008 Automotion Pin-Up Calendar will be the giveaway on Wednesday, November 21st when the Pistons host the New York Knicks. The first 7,500 fans (18 and over only) will receive a copy of the calendar, courtesy of Bianchi Salon and Spa.

For those fans who don’t get a calendar at the game on Wednesday, they will be for sale at all www.pistons.com. The price is $13.00 and a portion of the proceeds will go to the Automotion Scholarship Fund. [photos]
