NFL Week 8 – Halloween Tricks and Treats

Posted by David Allen Tyau at 5:35 AM ET

The past week has been a very trying time for the people of Southern California due to the effects of several devastating wild fires. San Diego County was particularly hard hit. So, when the Chargers played the Texans as scheduled on Sunday, it was a much needed respite from the realities of the past few days.

As I pulled into the parking lot at Qualcomm stadium, there was only a hint of smoke and ash in the air. But there was a definite sense of excitement as the game against the Texans represented a return to normalcy for people who had endured so much. Prior to kick off, the Chargers honored the service of local firemen, law enforcement officials and the military whose efforts were instrumental in minimizing the effects of the fires.

As the game began, it was quite clear that the Chargers were focused and ready to play. While the visiting Texans may have thought they were in for a treat, the Chargers tricked the Houston offense into committing five turnovers. It was over by halftime as the Chargers racked up 35 points in the first two periods alone and cruised to a 35-10 victory.

But of course, tricks were not the only thing served up this day. The treats were provided by the Charger Girls who dressed in their Halloween costumes. Now, I haven’t gone trick or treating for quite some time, but I don’t seem to recall Halloween costumes like these. I’m not complaining mind you because these beautiful girls were certainly candy for the eye to enjoy.

San Diego is a military town and what better way to celebrate Halloween than by paying homage to the services. Line Captains Summer (Marines) and Ashley W. (Navy) along with Marisa (Army) sport military themed costumes.

I guess there’s no love for the Air Force in San Diego. Fantasy themed costumes seemed to be very popular amongst the Charger Girls. Here’s Rebecca dressed up as a sexy student at Hogwarts. Remember, Becky…it’s always the defense against the dark arts teacher.

And what would Halloween be without your assortment of fairies, pirates and Disney Characters. Here’s Shelby as an alluring fairy princess, Heather as a sexy pirate (argh!), Kaylin as an Alice in Wonderland, Constance as Peter Pan (I seem to recall Peter Pan as being a boy; however…) and Lauren as Raggedy Ann.

Lauren is a former Junior Charger Girl. Who says the NFL doesn’t have a farm system.

Naughty also seems to be a popular theme for costume ideas. Here’s Gail as the naughty doctor in scrubs. Her choice of costume is particularly appropriate, as she tells me she received her MCATs scores back and they were quite high. Dr. Gail has a nice ring to it. Now I generally don’t like hospitals, but in this case…one can make an exception.

And speaking of naughty, what would be Halloween be without a naughty French Maid (Lindsay), a naughty little red devil (Kiirsta), or a naughty Reform School Girl (Shantel).

Here’s Robin as a sexy referee. When I played IMs in college the refs never looked like Robin.

Robin is introducing a new clothing line in January. Who says cheerleaders are all fluff. We have several business owners, professionals and students on this squad. These girls are going to be the leaders of tomorrow…but for now, let’s enjoy their talents on the sidelines.

Speaking of business owners, Line Captain Stacie has her own sportswear business (Zonas Designs) and designed her costume as well as the costumes of Gail and Ashley M. Here’s Stacie her modeling her sexy Charger Football uniform and the alluring Ashley M. as a Spanish Torero.

Several Charger Girls wore variations (mostly sexy or skimpy) of sports related costumes. Here’s Michelle as a sexy caddie, Kamri as a sexy boxer, Marlina as a sexy jockey (Yep, that's her underneath the hat) and Alicia as a sexy Tennis player.

And we have three Charger Girls sporting unique princess themed costume. Here’s Katrina as an Arabian Princess, Jill Ann as an Eskimo Princess, and Kylette as an Indian Princess (Pocahontas?).

Carly looks quite the role as an 80’s workout warrior. Kimberly is quite convincing as a sexy jungle queen. Natalie makes an interesting and pretty Lady Bug. Ashlie is a sexy country girl, with chaps included. And Lizzy is quite attractive in her sexy little kimono.

I must say that this year’s costumes were quite memorable. Skimpy, sexy, alluring pretty much describes this year’s Charger Girls Halloween edition. It was a visual feast (okay, that’s a Thanksgiving reference). It was a real treat for Charger fans that made it out to the game. And it was a much need distraction from what had transpired this week. So, to the dedicated Charger Girls who came out Sunday to cheer on the Chargers and cheer up San Diegans, thank you and have a Happy Halloween.
