Chargers vs 49ers - NFL Pre-Season Week 4

Posted by David Allen Tyau at 10:56 PM ET

The fourth game of the NFL pre-season is usually the worst in terms of game watching. The starters don’t play much and the guys that do play are unlikely to make the team. The quality of football is, to be kind, uninspiring. So with that in mind, I made the trek to San Diego to spend a few hours watching the Charger Girls and to try out some new camera equipment.

Line Captain Ashley W. always has a smile for her fans.

With their enthusiasm and dance ability, it’s no secret why Summer and Stacie were selected as Line Captains for a second consecutive year.

One of the great things about pre-season is that you get to see how the rookies perform before large crowds. Their enthusiasm and excitement makes for some memorable moments. Here’s rookie Charger Girls Kylette, Jill Ann,and Kimberly.

Pre-season is also a time for the veterans to shine and Charger Girls Alicia, Lindsay, and Marisa do just that.

With their expressive smiles and photogenic good looks, rookies Shelby, Heather and Lauren are fast becoming some of my favorite Charger Girls to photograph.

Not lost in the shuffle of gorgeous sideline beauties, Charger Girls Marlina, Natalie, and Michelle return for another season cheering on the new look Chargers.

The Charger Girls have a saying, “once a Charger Girl, always a Charger Girl” and that’s not a just an empty saying. Several former Charger Girls were on the sidelines and in the stands, providing their support for the current squad. Former Charger Girl Sara Beth now prowls the sidelines as a Charger Girl coordinator.

And a fan favorite from the prior two years, Lauren was in the stands supporting her former teammates.

She looks like she can suit up right now and pick up where she left off. And speaking of former Charger Girls, I ran into Cameron and Casie. Cameron tells me that both she and Casie took the year off to focus on their studies. It looks like these girls have their priorities straight. Let’s hope we see them in the uniform next year. Unfortunately, I “butchered” the photograph of Cameron and her friend (hey, it’s pre-season for me too!), but here’s a couple of photographs of both girls from year’s past.

With the pre-season over, the Chargers play for real next week. Another season, filled with promise. Let’s hope things turn out better than last year. But if it doesn’t, we’ll always have the Charger Girls.
