SUNRISE, Fla. – The Florida Panthers Ice Dancers by Sziro Jewelry announced today that over 100 girls tried out for the 2007-08 Ice Dancers squad this past Saturday, August 4 at the BankAtlantic Center.

The tryouts consisted of two rounds – one freestyle dance round and one choreographed dance – with cuts made after each round. Each girl was scored on her dance ability and potential by 15 judges that included ‘J’ from 93ROCK, Adam and Patty Ratkevitch from Hollywood Tans, Kelly Szirovatka from Sziro Jewelry, Panthers defenseman Mike and Amber Van Ryn, Panthers captain Olli and Katerina Jokinen, Jack Sparks from Panera Bread, Panthers Ice Dancers Director Nichole Genchi and more.

“We were very excited with both the turnout and the quality of ladies that tried out on Saturday,” Genchi said. “This year’s team will undoubtedly be the best dance team in the NHL and we will provide Panthers fans with great entertainment at the BankAtlantic Center on game nights, while helping to do our part in the South Florida community.”

In just their second year, the Panthers Ice Dancers by Sziro Jewelry will be bigger and better than ever. This season, fans can look forward to a team of 20 girls – as opposed to last year’s 12 – with two inner bowl stages and a permanent signing area on the BankAtlantic Center concourse. These enhancements are all part of Sziro Jewelry’s expanded partnership with the Panthers, following the success of last year’s inaugural Ice Dancers team.

In addition, the Dancers will continue to help distribute give-a-ways, assist with intermission activities and be on hand at player autograph sessions throughout the 2007-08 Florida Panthers season. The Ice Dancers’ impact is not limited to the BankAtlantic Center, as they also will be available for charitable and community appearances, as well as with the team’s marketing efforts in South Florida.

In addition, this year the Panthers Ice Dancers by Sziro Jewelry hosted three pre-tryout clinics. These clinics taught the style of choreography that was used at the actual auditions. Dancers received pointers on hair, make-up and costuming for the auditions. Over 50 girls showed up for at least one of the clinics with multiple girls attending more than one clinic during the week.

At the end of the day on Saturday, 31 girls were selected as finalists for the 2007-08 squad. Over the course of the next week, the team will be narrowed down to 20 girls.
