Katrina Foran leads a hectic life but it's probably as exciting as it's ever been at the moment.

The 22-year-old, from Paisley, Renfrewshire, is set to complete her Higher National Diploma (HND) in Beauty Therapy at James Watt College in Greenock. She's also just back from a trip to Dubai as one of the Scottish Rockettes' cheerleaders and is a finalist in this year's Miss Scotland contest.

"It's all go right now but good fun," said Katrina.

"I have things to do for the course, I've got my training, my gym work and dancing and, of course, the Miss Scotland competition so I'm trying to be organised and make sure everything I need to do gets done. I'll manage, I'm sure."

Katrina has really enjoyed her HND Beauty Therapy course because of the range of topics covered over the two years.

"The students don't just go in and do each other's nails - nothing like that," said Katrina.

While the course covers popular and in-demand techniques such as waxing, facial therapy, massage and eye-lash perming now offered in beauty salons, it also focuses on many other subjects.

These include anatomy, physiology, health and safety, lifestyle, diet and nutrition.

In addition, students learn about skin care and preparing business plans, which will help if they want to start up on their own.

"Physics was part of the course as well and I found that very hard, a bit of a struggle," said Katrina. "But with the help of my lecturers I got through. They were fantastic, very supportive and encouraging at all times."

But overall, she found the course both challenging and interesting.

At the moment, she's not sure of her future plans. She's working in a hair and beauty salon, but the idea of running her own business is something she might consider.

"With everything being so hectic just now I'm quite happy to continue working where I am and pursuing all my other activities.

"I've been with the Rockettes for five years and we've got a busy schedule ahead. It's going to be a lot of fun rehearsing our routines.

"It's a hectic time but it's a lot of fun, too."
