Ashley White Chosen For Miami Dolphins Cheerleading Squad

Local 10's Ashley White has a new title to add to her resume: Miami Dolphins cheerleader.

The Georgia native, a weekend and traffic reporter for Local 10, auditioned for one of the most famous cheerleading squads -- the Miami Dolphins Cheerleaders -- in April. Out of 250 women that auditioned, White, 22, made the squad of 49.

"I was so nervous. There was so much competition involved. There were so many beautiful and talented girls there," said White.

White said she went through a series of preparation classes that lasted for a two-month period.

"We observed their dances and we were also taught some of them and some funky walks. It gave us a taste of what it would be like as a Dolphin cheerleader," said White.

The semi-finals and finals took place this past April. The final auditions were at the Aventura Mall. White said she was required to learn two different group dances and an individual routine.

"I was in the very last group to find out if I had made the squad. It was so nerve-wracking," said White.

One of her first assignments after making the squad was that she got to perform for the much-anticipated NFL Draft Day.

"I can't believe I'm a part of this. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity," said White.

Just recently, White set off to the small Bahamian island of Bimini to promote the Dolphin cheerleaders. She said she performed at resorts and spent time with the people of the island.

"I've never seen so many Dolphins' fans there. One man painted his garage door with a picture of a Dolphins helmet," said White.

White arrived in Miami to attend the University of Miami. During her college years, she participated on the 'Canes as a UM coed cheerleader.

Later, she was chosen to represent the ACC in the Athlon Sports Sideline Spirit contest. After graduating from UM, she joined the Local 10 news team as a weekend reporter. She's married to Local 10 meteorologist Trent Aric. The couple lives in Cutler Bay.

For White, being a Miami Dolphins cheerleader surpasses anything she says she could imagine.

"I'm looking forward to new doors that may open," she said.
